ABOUT ABOUT

Have questions about starting or growing your creative work?
Wish you could sit down with local experts to explore your ideas?

Uncle Bobbie's and CultureWorks are partnering to offer 1-on-1 learning sessions for artists + cultural practitioners, where folks can ask the questions they need to start or grow their creative work!

August's session will focus on LEGAL ADVICE with Karl Fowlkes, Esq. of The Fowlkes Firm, which can include:

  • Negotiating service contracts
  • Navigating the independent contractor relationship
  • Protecting your intellectual property,
  • Treating your art and services like a business
  • + more!

These sessions are a space for creatives to discuss entrepreneurship ideas and strategies with local professionals. Whether emerging or estalished, we're here to support your work with down-to-earth advice + real talk.

There are no "dumb" questions. Come as you are!

HOW LONG ARE THESE LEARNING SESSIONS?
Each session is 30 minutes long and by appointment only. Please sign up for a 30-minute time-slot that works for you, as we want to ensure that you can meet with us at the time of your choosing. If we have openngs or cancellations, walk-ins are welcome, but we can make no guarantee!

WHO CAN COME & WHERE IS IT?
Artists, creatives, cultural producers, and organizations of all experience levels are encouraged to attend. Yet, due to space capacities, no more than 2 people from your team should attend. All sessions will take place in-person only at Uncle Bobbie's (5445 Germantown Avenue).

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The cost for these workshops will be on a sliding scale basis, ranging from $1 to $40. We recognize that this kind of learning experience is often cost prohibitive for individuals, particularly people of color, low-income/low-asset individuals, and those from grassroots and small organizations.

Please find a cost that works for you. If you can afford to pay at the high end of the scale, please do! If you want to attend but can't pay, please contact us via the email link below - and we'll happily figure out accommodations.

A NOTE ON ACCESSIBILITY
Both CultureWorks and Uncle Bobbie's are committed to providing accessible programs, events, and services. All learning sessions will take place at Uncle Bobbie's in the back room, which has two small steps to enter this space. In addition, Uncle Bobbie's has a gender-neutral, accessible bathroom. Please let us know about any additional accommodations (when asked during registration) - and we'll do our best to assist.
